Traditions and innovations in the Oltrepò Pavese

Winery visit + wine tasting | Duration: Approximately 1.5 hours

The Tenuta (estate) in Calvignano, in the Oltrepò Pavese, dates back to 1111 and since 1868 and it was chosen because of the beauty of the landscapes and because it’s an extremely fertile area for wines. The most important vines and wines here are Pinot Nero and Riesling Renano. The modern winery boasts centuries-old traditions and the oenological evolution is accompanied by a patient and meticulous work. This has led the estate to incarnate the most authentic expression of the Oltrepò pavese area. The property stretches along 400 hectares in a single unit, of which 80 hectares of vineyard. It boasts 12 farmhouses, a historical village and an inn (locanda) with a restaurant and rooms for guests. Just a shade over an hour from Milan, you will get the chance to visit the Travaglino Farmstead, taste 4 wines accompanied by cured meats and cheese.

Traditions and innovations in the Oltrepò Pavese

Winery visit + wine tasting | Duration: Approximately 1.5 hours

The third area in the world for the production of Pinot Nero after Champagne and Burgundy, the first in Italy with over 3300 hectares of vines, with a particular shape that recalls a bunch and dubbed ‘Old Piedmont’ in the past, the Oltrepò Pavese is an area in Lombardy wedged among Piedmont, Liguria and Emilia, where very different vines and wines coexist. Characterised by the prevalence of hilly terrain, the area is blessed by a particularly favourable climate that allows the ripening of the grapes in late autumn too. It is right here among these hills that this estate dating back to 1111, produces Pinot Noir, Croatina, Barbera and Riesling Renano wines in oak and steel barrels. Calcareous clay soils, between 250 and 350 metres a.s.l., with southwest exposure help to fully maintain flavours and aromas. The respect for grape and consequently for wine is the main philosophy at this Estate, every step being important to guarantee and improve the wine quality.
