Urban Tour | The Milanese Liberty style and tasting at EnotecaWine
The Liberty style of Milan is known throughout Europe to be one of the most refined, elegant and multi-faceted versions of the floral style, and the Liberty architectures of Corso Venezia and Corso Magenta are quite well known. The ancient district of Porta Magenta has a very lively architectural history, which unfolds from the construction of the Spanish walls to the redevelopment of the area occurred in the Napoleonic period with the important works of Luigi Canonica, from the construction of the San Vittore prison (1872-1979) to the construction of important bourgeois residences during the Belle Époque.

Our tour will commence in Santa Maria delle Grazie and we will walk along tree-lined avenues, where we shall see Liberty buildings, mosaic facades, ceramic decorations and all sorts of wrought-iron ornaments. The quiet atmosphere and little traffic were in fact chosen over the years by the Milanese bourgeoisie, hiring the most prominent architects of the time to create wonderful and comfortable residences, such as the splendid Casa Valli and Casa Binda, the Maria Luisa detached house which is covered in blue and gold mosaics and other houses whose decoration is inspired by ancient Egypt or the famous Italian writer Torquato Tasso. There will be neo-medieval buildings and some illustrious examples of architecture of the following decades, in order to underline how over the course of twenty years architectural taste has changed, giving rise to one of the most curious and architecturally diverse neighbourhoods.
This guided tour will be conducted by a guide with a degree in history of art, with the help of a microphone.
At the end of this lovely walk, we will have the opportunity to take part in a guided tasting of two wines. The tasting will be directed by Sebastiano Baldinu, Sommelier and Director of AIS who, along with his business partner Kiyomi, has opened EnotecaWine, a welcoming and informal place offering both wines with important labels and smaller productions
