A trail through tastes of Sicilian food and wine

Wine cellar visit and tasting | about 2 hours

This winemaking farm is set close to Acate, in a new and unusual territory, where the eye can travel all the way to the Iblei Mountains. This tasting itinerary winds through the farm’s vineyards, the modern barriques and tonneaux aging cellar, the old palmento (millstone) turned into wine museum, to end with a tasting of 4 wines paired with typical Sicilian dishes. The main characters in this tasting, aside from the traditional recipes prepared with local organic products, are two important vines: Frappato, for wines with delicate fruity scents, and Nero d’Avola, more structured, decisive and enduring.

A trail through tastes of Sicilian food and wine

Wine cellar visit and tasting | about 2 hours

Victoria pulchra civitas post Camerinam, i. e. “Vittoria beautiful city after Camarina” is the writing set on the city’s coat of arms, founded by the Countess Vittoria Colonna on the ruins of Kamarina. On the coat of arms is a crowned eagle carrying luxuriant bunches of grapes to signify the city’s winemaking calling. When in 1607 Vittoria was founded, a hectare of land was granted to the first 75 settlers with the condition that another hectare be vine farmed. Such condition created a driving economy for nearby villages as well. Right at that time was born the Cerasuolo di Vittoria, probably inheriting the name from Kerasos, a local red berry bush. Today this wine is typically produced with Frappato and Nero d’Avola vines.
